Virtue

"We've got champagne taste, but not enough money for the real thing."
One of the perks during work is when I write my weekly reflection and let my supervisor to read, he will say "Good" or "Very Good".
Just like today, I wrote a damn long ass reflection (hahah in the MRT on the way to work this morning 'cos I said I'll show him today and I didn't want to go back on my words) and he said that it was "very good" hahaha.
So happy.
I take pride in writing my reflections because languages are my strength.
Writing reflection helps to stimulate my thinking and to hone my writing skills so I put in some effort to ensure that it is done well. (Other than the fact that it shows my attitude in work as well so as to impress both supervisors at work and in school.)
I write honestly in my reflections and I think honesty is a great virtue in the current society.
I'm not trying to say that I'm a saint at being honest 'cos honestly, I lie too. (haha it's not a pun)
I believe strongly that people can feel who you really are, when you are really nice and sincere towards them or not.
This is especially reflected ever since I started my internship.
They can tell when you are really interested and eager to learn more rather than pretend to be interested in listening what they have to say.
They also can feel when you are really trying to treat them as friends rather then talk to them for the sake of talking.
I am quite true to my own feelings too as in I don't suck up to every single person.
I try to make an effort to smile at everyone. (The attitude service crew adopts)
However, when people don't return the smile, I don't still keep smiling like a fool to them.
If I smiled and they don't appreciate it then it's okay since I don't know every single one of them well too.
But when you smile at strangers and they return it back, that is a bonus.
The most memorable incident was one early morning in the canteen when I was queuing up for my cup of caffeine and I smiled at this ang moh lady who complimented "Wow, what a beautiful smile we have early in the morning!"
That made my day.
Perhaps in the Asian culture, people won't compliment you directly like the Westerners do.
But I think they can feel it too cos they'd return the smile, though not every single one (and perhaps that small gesture of smiling had help to brighten their day a little).
I love to smile at people thinking that a small smile could have helped to cheer them up a little like how other strangers have helped to cheer me up when they smile sincerely.
And most importantly, I hate dull atmosphere.
I love when the place that I have to live with is full of laughter and cheery atmosphere.
It just feels like the world is not that bad after all.
I hope that it is not because that to them, I'm the xiao mei here so I don't have any schemes or politics to compete with them.
And I hope that in future when I go out to really work, people that I meet will be still cheerful, nice, kind and sweet!
Talking about people being nice....
There's this super kind and talented artist on instagram I got to know on Sunday (via insta la, not face-to-face)!
I left a comment on one of his photos, it was a drawing of Taeyang!
He is really talented and I was so fascinated and overwhelmed by his works!!
OMG HIS DRAWING DAMN LIFELIKE AND AMAZING ALL THE DETAILS AND THE SHADING.

He is so extremely nice I got so excited and touched and happy while I was on the way to Changi Village with ele and for the rest of the day and ytd and now.
Hahaha.
He offered to draw and readily agreed upon request!!!
I was really really very very touched. No amount of words can truly reflect how grateful I was for his kind gesture.
Please go check out his instagram!
WILL NOT REGRET I SWEAR.
There's this other drawing he did of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra.
Go see it yourself cos I couldn't upload the screenshot I have.
(You probably had to scroll down to see it, but at the same time you can admire all the other fantabulous works he did!!!)
I hope that the budding local artists in Singapore can get more chances for recognition for the art they do.
I've seen quite a few talented local artists in Singapore and they are really all so amazing and passionate about their art!
And all the more talented artists with a kind heart like Kumar, deserves to be in the limelight (:
